The Dept. of Thoracic Surgery treats diseases in the chest, including diseases of the heart, lung, esophagus, aorta, mediastinum, diaphragm, and trachea via surgical methods. As these organs in the chest are vital for survival, the department has professional skills and knowledge, with up-to-date medical equipment.
Belonging to the Cardiovascular Center along with the Dept. of Cardiology, this department’s service can be mainly divided into the adult heart section dealing with surgical treatments of coronary arterial disease and aorta disease, the pediatric heart section treating inherent heart diseases and the general thoracic section dealing with malignant tumor and diseases requiring surgery of the lung, esophagus, mediastinum, diaphragm, and trachea. In addition, many other diseases are treated with up-to-date techniques, including thoracocopic surgery, hyperhidrosis surgery and varicose vein surgery.
